Moving to Hammond after experiencing Hurricane Katrina was an easy choice. I had attended & graduated from Southeastern. My daughter was attending Southeastern & upon graduating, became a schoolteacher in the Tangipahoa Parish Public School System. At the same time, my son & daughter-in-law moved to Hammond & my daughter-in-law became a schoolteacher at Holy Ghost School. Now I have two grandchildren attending Southeastern & a granddaughter who graduated from Aveda School of Beauty.
Although I felt like coming back to a familiar place, it was a little “daunting” having to start at a new Catholic Church since Holy Ghost was much larger than the Church I came from.
Attempting to attend my first mass at Holy Ghost, I thought, “How will I ever become active in my Church all over again?” When I got to Church, a gentleman greeted me with a smile, saying, “Good morning” & opened the door for me. Entering Church, people were smiling & the priests were greeting everyone. I had never seen a Church community that large where it seemed everyone was friends!
I began to Lector again as I did in my previous Church. As time went on, the leader of RCIA asked me to be a sponsor on the RCIA team. This past year, I became a Eucharistic minister.
Being a Parishioner of Holy Ghost throughout the years, I’ve made friends with so many good people. I feel like coming to Hammond after Hurricane Katrina was the work of the Holy Spirit and has been a blessing.
I once read that no matter where life leads you, always try to “bloom where you are planted.” Coming to Hammond & becoming an active Parishioner at Holy Ghost Church has allowed me to “bloom where I am planted.” I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve more.

Rob Carlisle currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Child Advocacy Services (CAS) a private, non-profit umbrella agency providing services through the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) Program, and other services supporting their mission to give Voice, Healing, and Security to children. Formerly the Clinical Director for Child Advocacy Services, he has provided therapeutic supervision and counseling for children and adults in a variety of settings. Rob has developed, planned, and implemented a range of programs and direct service initiatives for youth in over fourteen parishes and ten Judicial Districts throughout Louisiana. In earlier capacities, he served as the Juvenile Services Director for the City Court of Hammond. He has worked in substance abuse treatment and the juvenile justice field for over 18 years, five of those years he has been involved in the development and implementation of three juvenile drug courts resulting in national consultant duties through the National Family and Juvenile Court Judges Association. He has served as a national consultant for the National Council for Juvenile Court Judges Association.
Mr. Carlisle integrates programming strategies for youth across judicial, non-profit, and private settings, ensuring comprehensive care. An adjunct faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University, he holds degrees in education and counseling from the same institution. Carlisle has served on various boards and has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others, including through the Holy Ghost Catholic Church Board of Directors. He enjoys traveling abroad and enjoying new cultures, experiences, and adventures.

I would like to introduce myself, Javier Chicas, born on May 21, 1970, in Honduras, Central America. In 1978, I became a naturalized U.S. citizen in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Although my family remained in Honduras, with my father working in Honduras for a US Company, “Rosario Mining.” I grew up with a deep connection to the Catholic faith, thanks to my mother, a remarkable woman, devout Catholic, and example of faith who always guided us spiritually. Despite the challenges she faced, she remained strong and focused on raising us, with her trust in God as her anchor. I could always see her quiet devotion and love for the Catholic church. She poured her heart into teaching us the faith, the importance of respecting others, and the value of responsibility. It wasn't easy for her, given that she later had the challenge to raise three boys as a single mother, but her determination and love shaped our lives profoundly.
Today, I am blessed with a beautiful wife, Thania Chicas, and two wonderful sons: Esteban, 16, who attended Holy Ghost since kindergarten and is now a sophomore at Saint Paul's, and Sebastian, 12, who is still at Holy Ghost in sixth grade. For the past 17 years, my wife and I have owned and operated a detailing business, Smartwash Pro, serving Hammond and much of Louisiana since 2008. We've been incredibly blessed by God's grace, the support of our family, friends, and the work we've built together. I am also a member of the TMIY men's group at St. Anselm Church in Madisonville, and I hope to start a similar group here at Holy Ghost in the future. I feel very blessed and grateful with the Lord, for all that he has given me and my family. I look forward in being there for the Lord in all I can humbly give to him, through the Catholic Church.

Hi, my name is Peter Espinia Jr. I have been a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church for 49 years. Some of the ministries I have been involved in are:- Knights of Columbus

- I am an inquirer in the Marian Servants
I am interested in deepening my relationship with God and exploring an understanding of my faith journey.
I have been married to my wife, Sonya, for 32 years, together 36 years. We have 2 wonderful sons, Pete III and Matthew. Pete is 31 years old, and a project manager/supervisor at a chemical company in Gonzales, his company has participated in the Holy Ghost Dad’s Club fundraiser. Pete is married to his wife Vanessa, and they have given us 2 beautiful granddaughters, Paisley (6) and Allie (4). Matthew is 20 years old and he is an EMT working for Acadian Ambulance here in Hammond. He intends to continue his education and become a paramedic.
My favorite things to do are travel and take cruises with my family and friends, and I love to visit Catholic Churches everywhere we travel. I really enjoy attending masses in different cities.
My life is about GOD, church, and my family. I manage Hobby Lobby in Hammond, I strive to apply my faith in how I treat the people in my life. I try to attend church daily and it would be an honor and a privilege to serve on the parish council.

I was born and raised in Hammond. Holy Ghost Parish has always been my second home. As a kid, I would spend Saturday nights with my grandparents and would attend Mass with them on Sundays. My grandmother Jennie left a lasting impression on me with her deep faith and devotion to our Catholic faith. Having attended Holy Ghost School from K-8th grades allowed me to learn more throughout those years and that continued through my Confirmation in the church.
My love for Holy Ghost Parish runs deep. All three of my daughters have attended Holy Ghost Catholic School, two of which have graduated and the third of which will be entering 8th grade this year. I have assisted with the Parish Fair for many years and have served as Co-Chair. As the largest fundraising event for the Parish, the fair takes a tremendous amount of work from a lot of people to be successful. I was honored to have worked on the fair for so many years. Additionally, I previously served the Dad's Club for many years. My love of service for our Parish has continued as I have served as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister over the past years. In addition to serving at Mass, I find joy in bringing Communion to the homebound each week.
Professionally, I have worked in the residential construction industry for over 25 years. Seeing others' dreams come to life through home ownership, and knowing I get to be a small part of that, is such a blessing.

I am honored to express my interest in serving as a member of the Holy Ghost Parish Council. My faith has been a guiding force throughout my life, rooted deeply in the sacraments I received at Mater Dolorosa Church and continued my faith-based education at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. These early experiences nurtured my spiritual development and commitment to living a life of service and faith. The values I embraced during that time continue to shape my character and my dedication to the Church.
My wife, Sky, and I became members of Holy Ghost Parish when our children began attending Holy Ghost Catholic School. Since then, this parish has become a cornerstone of our family life. We have cherished the sense of community, shared worship, and the opportunity to raise our children in the Catholic faith.
Professionally, my current career has honed my ability to listen carefully, understand others’ concerns, and offer thoughtful, practical solutions. These skills align well with the responsibilities of parish council service, which requires both spiritual discernment and clear, collaborative decision-making.
I feel called to contribute to the continued vitality of Holy Ghost Parish. I would be honored to help guide our community with prayerful intention, drawing from my faith journey, family values, and professional experience. My name is Erika Sledge. I am a parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic church seeking election to our Parish Council. As a parent, I believe that my most important ministry is the example of faith, service, and worship that I set for my children. The future of our church is not only imperative to that ministry in my own home, but to all Catholics and Christians in our community that may walk through the doors of our church.
I am the proud mother of a 14-year-old son (former Holy Ghost Catholic student), and a 10-year-old daughter (current Holy Ghost student). I have been married to my husband, Britain Sledge, for 17 years.
Professionally, I serve as a District Court Judge in Tangipahoa, Livingston, and St. Helena Parishes. I also preside over Tangipahoa Parish Drug Court which is a specialty court with the goal of rehabilitating offenders struggling with substance abuse. My role in the judiciary has given me a profound appreciation for justice and compassion.
I have served on the Board of the Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center, Restoration House Pregnancy Resource Center, and the Holy Ghost Catholic School Advisory Board.
I would bring to the council a perspective rooted in both family life and public service, and I would work to strengthen the connections between our church, school, and community.

Trasladarme a Hammond después del huracán Katrina fue una decisión fácil. Yo había asistido y se graduó de Southeastern. Mi hija estaba asistiendo a Southeastern y después de graduarse, se convirtió en un maestro de escuela en el Sistema de Escuelas Públicas de Tangipahoa Parish. Al mismo tiempo, mi hijo y mi nuera se mudaron a Hammond y mi nuera se hizo maestra en la escuela Holy Ghost. Ahora tengo dos nietos que asisten a Southeastern y una nieta que se graduó de la Escuela de Belleza Aveda.
Aunque sentia que regresaba a un lugar familiar, era un poco «desalentador» tener que empezar en una nueva Iglesia Catolica ya que Holy Ghost era mucho mas grande que la Iglesia de donde venia.
Al intentar asistir a mi primera misa en Holy Ghost, pensé: «¿Cómo voy a volver a ser activo en mi Iglesia?». Cuando llegué a la Iglesia, un caballero me saludó con una sonrisa, diciendo: «Buenos días» y me abrió la puerta. Al entrar en la Iglesia, la gente sonreía y los sacerdotes saludaban a todo el mundo. Nunca había visto una comunidad eclesial tan grande en la que pareciera que todos eran amigos.
Empecé a rezar como lo hacía en mi iglesia anterior. Con el tiempo, el líder de RCIA me pidió que fuera padrino en el equipo de RCIA. El año pasado, me convertí en ministro de la Eucaristía.
Siendo feligrés del Espíritu Santo a través de los años, he hecho amistad con mucha gente buena. Siento que venir a Hammond después del huracán Katrina fue obra del Espíritu Santo y ha sido una bendición.

Hoy, soy bendecido con una esposa hermosa, Thania Chicas, y dos hijos maravillosos: Esteban, de 16 años, que asistió a Holy Ghost desde el jardín de infantes y ahora es un estudiante de segundo año en Saint Paul, y Sebastián, de 12 años, que todavía está en Holy Ghost en sexto grado. Nací y crecí en Hammond. La parroquia del Espíritu Santo siempre ha sido mi segundo hogar. De niño, pasaba los sábados por la noche con mis abuelos y asistía a misa con ellos los domingos. Mi abuela Jennie dejo una impresion duradera en mi con su profunda fe y devocion a nuestra fe Catolica. Habiendo asistido a la escuela Holy Ghost desde Kinder hasta 8vo grado me permitió aprender más a través de esos años y eso continuó a través de mi Confirmación en la iglesia.
Mi amor por la Parroquia del Espíritu Santo es profundo. Mis tres hijas han asistido a la Escuela Catolica del Espiritu Santo, dos de ellas se han graduado y la tercera entrara al 8vo grado este año. He ayudado con la Feria Parroquial por muchos años y he servido como Co-Presidente. Como el evento más grande de recaudación de fondos para la Parroquia, la feria toma una tremenda cantidad de trabajo de muchas personas para tener éxito. Me sentí honrado de haber trabajado en la feria durante tantos años. Adicionalmente, serví al Club de Padres por muchos años. Mi amor por el servicio a nuestra parroquia ha continuado como ujier y ministro de la Eucaristía en los últimos años. Además de servir en la Misa, encuentro alegría en llevar la Comunión a los confinados en casa cada semana.
Profesionalmente, he trabajado en la industria de la construcción residencial por más de 25 años. Es una gran bendición ver cómo los sueños de los demás se hacen realidad a través de la propiedad de la vivienda, y saber que puedo ser una pequeña parte de ello.

Me honra expresar mi interés en servir como miembro del Consejo Parroquial del Espíritu Santo. Mi fe ha sido una fuerza guía a lo largo de mi vida, arraigada profundamente en los sacramentos que recibí en la Iglesia Mater Dolorosa y continué mi educación basada en la fe en la Escuela Secundaria Santo Tomás de Aquino. Estas primeras experiencias alimentaron mi desarrollo espiritual y mi compromiso de vivir una vida de servicio y fe. Los valores que abracé durante esa época siguen moldeando mi carácter y mi dedicación a la Iglesia.
Mi esposa, Sky, y yo nos hicimos miembros de la Parroquia del Espíritu Santo cuando nuestros hijos comenzaron a asistir a la Escuela Católica del Espíritu Santo. Desde entonces, esta parroquia se ha convertido en la piedra angular de nuestra vida familiar. Hemos apreciado el sentido de comunidad, el culto compartido y la oportunidad de criar a nuestros hijos en la fe católica.

Mi nombre es Erika Sledge. Soy una feligresa de la Iglesia Católica del Espíritu Santo que busca ser elegida para nuestro Consejo Parroquial. Como madre, creo que mi ministerio más importante es el ejemplo de fe, servicio y adoración que doy a mis hijos. El futuro de nuestra iglesia no solo es imperativo para ese ministerio en mi propia casa, sino para todos los Católicos y Cristianos en nuestra comunidad que puedan pasar por las puertas de nuestra iglesia.
Soy la orgullosa madre de un hijo de 14 años (antiguo estudiante católico del Espíritu Santo), y una hija de 10 años (actual estudiante del Espíritu Santo). He estado casada con mi esposo, Britain Sledge, por 17 años.
Profesionalmente, sirvo como Juez de Tribunal de Distrito en las Parroquias de Tangipahoa, Livingston, y Santa Helena. También presido el Tribunal de Drogas de la parroquia de Tangipahoa, que es un tribunal especializado cuyo objetivo es rehabilitar a los delincuentes que luchan contra el abuso de sustancias. Mi papel en la judicatura me ha dado un profundo aprecio por la justicia y la compasión.
He formado parte de la Junta del Centro de Descubrimiento de Niños de Luisiana, del Centro de Recursos para Embarazadas Restoration House y de la Junta Asesora de la Escuela Católica del Espíritu Santo.
