In the event of the Transfiguration of the Lord, we are speaking of several things happening. Immediately apparent is the Apostles’ perplexity on what to do in this new environment: let us make three tents. They became frightened, they heard the Father’s voice, and they fell silent.

Living and walking with Jesus, they had to get used to seeing things that they had never seen before! It was becoming a “new normal” for them—seeing this or that for the first time. Miraculous healings, exorcisms, water à wine, walking on water, etc.

This time they came across something that cut to the chase: the promise of the Resurrected body. For their own strength in their trials, God provided for Peter, John, and James with a glimpse of the future. It wasn’t just about Jesus’s glorified body, but also about what they and we are promised.

How?

While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.

Prayer changes us. If we remain faithful to prayer, we will be changed. We cannot pray for our enemies and hate them. To be faithful in prayer means to hold on to God’s love for us and remain in Him. It means having faith like our father Abraham’s (Abram) unwavering trust. We will receive our glorified body if we remain in God.

Then, let us pray. Lord, increase our faith.

En el acontecimiento de la Transfiguración del Señor suceden varias cosas. En primer lugar, la perplejidad de los Apóstoles sobre qué hacer en este nuevo ambiente: hagamos tres tiendas. Se asustaron, oyeron la voz del Padre y se quedaron callados.

Viviendo y caminando con Jesús, debían acostumbrarse a ver cosas que nunca antes habían visto. Se estaba convirtiendo en una «nueva normalidad» para ellos: ver esto o aquello por primera vez. Curaciones milagrosas, exorcismos, agua à vino, caminar sobre el agua, etc.

Esta vez se encontraron con algo que iba al grano: la promesa del cuerpo resucitado. Para su propia fortaleza en sus pruebas, Dios proveyó a Pedro, Juan y Santiago con un vislumbre del futuro. No se trataba sólo del cuerpo glorificado de Jesús, sino también de lo que se les promete a ellos y a nosotros.

¿Cómo?

Mientras oraba, su rostro cambió de aspecto y sus vestiduras se hicieron blancas y relampagueantes.

La oración nos cambia. Si permanecemos fieles a la oración, seremos cambiados. No podemos orar por nuestros enemigos y odiarlos. Ser fiel en la oración significa aferrarse al amor de Dios por nosotros y permanecer en Él. Significa tener fe como la confianza inquebrantable de nuestro padre Abraham (Abram). Permaneciendo en Dios recibiremos la promesa del cuerpo glorificado.

Entonces, oremos. Señor, aumenta nuestra fe.
